2001 ram 1500 5.9 has a screamin deamon coil / what type of complete tune up kit do i
looking to tune up my recently purchased { I KNOW NOYHING ABOUT DODGE TRUCKS ] 2001 Dodge ram 1500 5.9 gas 4x4 sport ; It has the screamin demon coil can i get some advice on a complete tune up , plugs, wires, cap, rotary button, coil, also has cold air intake , id like to stick with the hi pro stuff !
I would suggest a set of expensive spark plug wires, like from MSD. A conventional wire set will have around 1200-1300 ohms per foot of resistance whereas an MSD set has 50 ohms per foot. https://www.msdperformance.com/produ...rk_plug_wires/
If I already have the screamin demon coil does that mean that I have the Davis style distributor cap , trying to replace entire system ( ttune up)
coil, wires , cap , button , and spark plugs
all hi pro !
just need some advice

What condition is the cap & rotor in? Take it off and look at the terminals for pitting carbon build up. If it needs to be replaced you can get one at any parts store just make sure you ask for a "oem style". If not they will give you one with aluminum inserts that will corrode in no time. Any decent quality 8mm wires will be good. Just plain copper plugs(i prefer autolites) don't waste your $$$ with fancy plugs. Cant go wrong with that set up.
If the coil still works, and has a tower with the spark plug-like end on it, just leave it there. Good wires, as suggested, copper plugs, skip the expensive rare-earth fellers, they cause more problems than they solve.... and a matched cap and rotor. Brass terminals on the cap please. (accell?)
You can probably use NGK V-Powers. In the past I've found that NGK tend to be the closest to factory spec of all the after market plugs. A good set of MSD wires as others have noted and I can vouch for the Accell cap and rotor.
My setup for my 1996:
NGK V-Power plugs
MSD 8mm Wires
MSD Blaster Coil 8228
Accel Cap and Rotor

I like Standard Motor Products (not the crappy BWD line though). I'd get their cap, rotor, Blue Streak wires, and IAC valve. You could clean your IAC instead of replacing it. I'd also get an NTK O2 sensor and NGK V power or Autolite plugs. If you change the PCV valve, get it from Mopar.

I always heard bad stuff about aftermarket pcv valves too, I wonder if the cheap autozone brand one currently in my truck the old owners put in is somehow contributing to my bleh mpg even after a full tuneup...I haven't lost any oil nor smoke so the plenum isn't blown. As for my tuneup, I actually went with the lifetime warranty autozone wires, brass gold rotor/cap, ac delco copper plugs. I was kinda in a bind at the time and needed the parts asap, ideally, I'd have waited a bit and got autolite coppers, possibly ac delco professional or some good denso wires off rockauto, and well regarded brass accell cap/rotor, although I'm sure any brass one would serve alright, my truck actually drove alright with an aluminum one that was all corroded the previous owners installed. I suppose if you really wanna spend the money I've always heard good stuff about the msd wires.
thanks for the tidbit, I looked around online and found a mopar pcv valve from a good seller for only like 7 bucks
