Default What else could go wrong! Freeze plug behind head

Ok so no luck with any results for freeze plug removal on 8.0 v10. I have an 01 ram 2500. After a week of changing old warped headers and putting set of gibsons on during the test drive I got home and was leaking coolant like crazy! Dripping off of where bell housing and block meet. It looked like it was coming from freeze plug on back of head. I Haven' seen anyone with any removal tips are anything related to the job. Truck still runs great no issues so I know it isn't head gasket or anything. Sooo has anyone ever has to change these on there 8.0. did you drop trans? Any tips would really help. Thanks

I don't think there is enough room between the head, and firewall there to really do much with it, unfortunately. Not sure if dropping the trans would make it any better..... Could try moving a bunch of stuff out of the way, and see how much room you have to play with back there..... but, I suspect you may have to pull the head....

That's actually a good idea. Basically, something like this.

That would certainly get you by until you can make the repairs, if you have enough room to remove the old plug from the back of the head.

You might want to try on of those expandable plugs that come in various sizes. It will fit in over the existing plug, then tighten it with a wrench.
