Knock on startup/5.9 magnum

Knock on startup/5.9 magnum
Hey guys new to the forum,
been having this issue with my truck for awhile now and trying to figure out what the cause is. I have a 97 dodge 2500 5.9 magnum outback (not sure outback makes a difference). When i start it up it makes a knocking noise then goes away. I dont notice any rough idles or misfires. It does burn oil and mostly on startup. It is lacking power and i notice it sounds like it sucks alot of air.
Could this knocking be a plenum issue?

thanks for the quick response, i had an idea that its the plenum and planned on replacing it. I just replaced the pcv valve also. But like i said its only on startup but doesnt run rough or idle rough or anything like that. So i was just wondering why only when i start it

With the age of your truck, consider replacing the timing set, water pump, thermostat, and O2 sensor, if you replace the plenum gasket. You've got most of the work done to get to the timing chain. I ground the tips off the plenum bolts and reused the steel plate with Fel-Pro gaskets. Search the DIY section for the kegger mod, it allows a little more airflow at higher RPMs.

Awesome thanks for the info. I will consider doing the chain also. I did do a new water pump and thermostat awhile back. Where would i find the diy kegger mod? Also grounding the tips is because they were too long from the factory right?
