Default Stupid 4x4 question

Alright guys, I know this is probably a stupid question, but I've never owned a dodge before buying the one I have now. I picked up a 96 ram 1500, just a few days ago, and the **** for the 4x4 is gone. Not even floating around the truck. I keep seeing a couple different patterns for the 4lo, neutral, 2hi, and 4hi. Just wondering what the pattern is for the 96's. Pretty sure it's not in 4lo or neutral because I can get from here to there and it doesn't seem extremely slow or high in rpms. Is there anyone that could help me out?

96’s had selector switches? Thought they had floor shifters for the t-case?

No, its got the floor lever, the **** isn't on the shifter though and I'm unsure where it's at and where it should be at

So the correct position for 2hi is forward and to the left?

Yes, it was the same when I looked at a 96 Cummins before buying my 98 v10

Alright, I'll have to go to a junkyard and pick up a new **** sometime this week. As far as if the 4x4 were to stop working, what would I check for solutions?

I'm probably not the guy to ask on the mechanical stuff. Hey you might be able to chime in. Sorry.

this is off a 96.
My 96 is a 2500 and there is no left or right movement it's only forward and back. Not positive but the pattern may be on the back side of the sun visor. Also did you check the owners manual? if you search the old posts (use the "search this forum" link at the top right on the header) under 4X4 not working you will get a ton of posts. It seems this question gets asked every other month. You should find your answer there. If not give a yell here.

Shift pattern changed in 98, along with a boatload of other stuff. To see how the system is supposed to work, have a look here. System is the same regardless of shift pattern.
