1997 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.2L V8

A month of two ago, I had a throttle issue where the RPMs would bounce from about 1200 to 2500 if I drove between 15 and 20mph. After 20mph it would catch itself, so to say, and drive normally.

I changed the TPS,IACV, and MAP sensors which fixed the issue. Most likely due to the TPS Id assume.

The problem came back,except this time it will bounce if I drive between 15 and 30mph. It will not go above 30mph unless I let off the gas for a few seconds and then accelerate slowly in which it will then "catch itself".

Besides possibly having to change the sensor again, I was wondering if anybody had other ideas.

Possibility: Do these throttle cables look as if they had too much slack to possibly cause the problem?

 

Slack in the throttle cables shouldn't matter, however, slack in the TV cable, (the one coming in from the back) could be a problem.

 

Im assuming the Tv cable is the one the trans dipstick is covering,that goes left. Its straight. Ill just replace tps again then.

 

So,I think you may be definitely right. I decided not to be ignorant and look up that TV cable. I noticed that my setup is DEFINITELY different than ones on videos. Specifically,that small funnel piece that pokes out ofnthe square box area where the clup is, doesnt seem to poke out as much as it should.

Any thoughts?
Im hoping that this may solve my issue where it takes upwards of 3000 rpms to shift from 1st to 2nd.

 

Biggest thing is: No slack in the cable, and that it moves freely. Having a second person help with adjusting it makes the job a LOT easier.

 

Before the cable was to the left of the ****.

I moved the cable forward to center it in the ****. RPM still bounces.

I unplugged the TPS sensor and drove but I had the same rpm bounce issue, as well as sluggish performance on top.

I then plugged the TPS back, and made another slight TV cable adjustment but this time pulling it out a little more to the right of the **** before locking it in. Bouncing issue is still there.

Any thoughts?

 

Trans output speed sensor maybe? Would be nice if you could plug in, and see what the trans thinks is going on before blowin' money on it though.....

 

Is that the same as the vehicle speed sensor? It did have a code for that when I first bought the truck. The odometer used to fail and come back. Eventually it just stopped being an issue. Code went away,odometer has never dropped.

Two different sensors on your truck. Output speed sensor is on drivers side of the trans. (I think)
