1998 Ram 1500 5.2 Vacuum ports
I just got an engine swap on my 98 ram 1500.
5.2
Had a small shop do it.
I noticed the vacuum port next to pcv has been plugged (port closest to dash on passenger side) what is that port for and should it be plugged? I took off plug when truck was running and it idled high then the engine shut down.
Also kinda off subject but i noticed my valve cover with pcv valve installed opposite way, so the pcv valve is on opposite end. Like its flipped around. Does it make a difference? The breather hose is still connected fine to vacuum port.
I have no check engine light.
I do notice when i first start truck in morning, it takes a few cranks and when it starts it's sort of dieseling for about 10-15 seconds then comes to full idle.
Whats the deal here?
Thanks

Thanks guys looks fairly easy to fix. Will correct it tomarrow.
My Ram is a 4x4.
As far as it being plugged up at the moment, does this affect performance? Besides 4x4, cc, hvac?
My AC works great now but when i accelerate, the air cuts off from front vents and only blows through the defrost vents. Could that plugged port be the reason? I always thought that issue was under dash instead of engine bay, i could be wrong.

The number of vacuum ports on the manifold changed over the years. My 96 has an extra that is simply capped. If you vents are working, as well as the 4x4, then you don't need to 'fix' anything.
As for the 'wild vents', (vents switching under acceleration/heavy load) several threads and fixes about that in the FAQ section. Just need s couple check valves in the vacuum lines.
