2nd gen EQ heads
I need advice about rebuilding EQ Iron ram cylinder heads. Anyone know of a performance shop in Ca? Or am i better off sending them to EQ? They are new, for the most part. Bent a valve, two separate times before realizing i need help. I think it never had the proper guides installed and honed. Is this something for a novice engine killer builder to try, installing valve guides?

I have read about complaints concerning the guides not being right before. +1 for HeyYou's statements. Kind of irritating that the new heads aren't bolt on ready. More evidence that makes me think we are better off buying them bare, and having a local shop prep them.
Thanks, I actually feel better knowing its not just me. And I agree... I'll be buying bare next time.
Thank you for the replies. Really is a big help. I'm taking them to a local shop. Makes sense.

I think it depends on who you get them from....... To me, if someone advertises an 'assembled head', I would expect to be able to take it out of the box, and bolt to my engine without issue. I do NOT believe I should have to disassemble the head, to make sure everything is correct.

I would never accept any major part such as heads ready to bolt on no matter who makes them before having a machine shop give them a once over. Most of this stuff is assembled in countries where people simply do not understand what they are assembling. Even if they are assembled in North America I would tear them down upon arrival and measure everything before considering them ready to install.
