Fix one problem and gain another (Thermostat bolt snapped)
Could it be an ignition switch? Or is it just wiring?
if you jumped terminal 87 to 30 and nothing happened your issue is likely somewhere under the hood. you may want to test for power at the starter and make sure the block has a good ground. if you got a good ground and power supply then you can touch the 2 terminals together on the starter an it should make the engine turn over. probably the easiest way to do it if your issue is else ware.
Alright.
i got a new ignition switch...didn’t do anything, so I touched both the terminals on the starter together, and it started. Truck is home and safe now, autozone was nice enough to not tow it last night considering I bought and replaced the starter late last night in their parking lot.
I tried to do the relay trick but that wasnt working, what would that mean? Just the fuse went out? I tried swapping fuses but that didn’t work either. I don’t think there is power going to the actual relay, I tried touching all of them together but nothing. Then I tried it on another fuse and sparks came up. So it must be something with just the starter relay connections?
So when I put the new starter in, I’m not entirely sure that the terminals were cleaned all the way, as it was all within 20 minutes at auto zone, in the parking lot, raining...should I go take that off and clean those terminals more too?
I just spent close to $400 in the last four days, also spent the last four days in the cold, and still it’s being a Problem Child. Someone buy my truck lol, also thank goodness for this forum, I’d be so lost without it. Thank you
Edit: Is it bad to touch the terminals with a screwdriver? I know that it worked, but should I not keep doing that? Would it be okay to clean the terminals, and if that doesn’t work just run two wires to the cab and make it a push start?

I'm very interested in finding out what the electrical/wiring problem seems to be in case I ever have the same issue with my truck for future reference, I definitely know what you mean with spending lots of money and it still not fixing the problem, brings back bad memories from this junky nissan sentra I used to have. Cleaning those connections certainly can't hurt. I'm glad for the forum too in reply to the earlier post. When I tried getting help with that POS nissan car, I literally got NO replies or answers whatsoever on nissan dedicated sites, talk about rubbing dirt in the wound at the time...
Not sure if this applies or not, but it sounds like there may be a possible fusible link that has gone bad - HeyYou (or anyone else familiar with the starter wiring), is there a fusible link grafted into the starter wiring harness?
do you have a test light or multi meter? you want to test terminal 30 for power. you can try jumping power from the battery + to terminal 87 on the starter relay. if engine cranks that should let you know the wire and connection going to the starter relay is good. if you have no power to terminal 30 then you may have an issue inside the power distribution center which may or may not be an easy fix.
Fuse 2 in the PDC (40amp) is the power feed to the starter relay, pin 30.
Ignition switch in start position provides power to the control side of the relay, pin 86.
Pin 85 runs off to the neutral safety switch, and from there, goes to ground.

On the bolt that's giving you problems, did you try hammering a 12 point socket on it? You may even have to try both metric and standard to get it to bite right. If you can get one on it good, might try on of these https://shop.brownells.com/gunsmith-...e263b88e7d87dd
I know you can find cheaper versions of them, but I don't know about performance on them .

On a warmer day this week I’ll try with a power probe and see if I have power to 30.
when I had the wire to it, 30, and 87, nothing happened, same to all of the other pins in that relay, I’m assuming that means there’s no power to 30, although I’ll confirm that when I get a chance, as well as cleaning off the starter terminals and tightening them down more
