Its basically completely rounded off, it’s the thermostat bolt closest to the intake, and I can’t get anything to grip it without it just slipping.

What can I do? The bolt is still in tact, it’s just stripped to all hell.

Im not one to get frustrated over anything but I’ve spent almost four hours on this one single bolt. I’m frustrated. Any suggestions?
You need the sockets that are rifled like a gun and for loosening only

Another F-ing problem. I just punched the thermostat with a screwdriver and got it to stick open, so thermostat is fine.....I got to autozone to return the socket set I had gotten and out of nowhere the truck wouldn’t start.
The lights turned on, I turned the key to on and everything sounded normal (fuel pump started) but when I went to actually start it the starter did NOT click, and the truck did NOT start. So naturally I thought it was a starter. I replaced the starter (I’m in the autozone parking lot) and still it would not start....it seems electrical but I’m not sure.

New alternator, newer battery, and brand new starter. I tried swapping all the relays and nothing worked. Truck is sitting in the autozone parking lot and I need to get it out in 24 hours. Does anybody know this new issue?

when I started it, it did NOT click like a dead battery would. I’m very confused and very frustrated with this stupid truck today. Any suggestions or ideas?

It does not crank at all.

did you try jumping the starter? usually a paper clip will do the job. just pull the starter relay and jump terminal 30 and 87 with the key in the run position. should cause the engine to crank.

Is there anything left as far as an edge on the head of the bolt or is it domed ?

I replaced the entire starter, still no luck, one of my buddies said it could be a relay or fuse. I’ll try both of those tomorrow

the bolt was completely rounded, I just left it be and punched the thermostat to stay open. It runs cold, but it runs. Or at least did run.

I would probably grind the rest of the head of the bolt off with a dremel (not sure what attachment would work best), remove the housing and then get at the bolt with some better grabbing method.

hahahaha i am not talking about the starter. i am talking about the relay. you can pull the relay and jump terminal 30 to 87 and it should make the engine crank as long as the wire between the relay and and starter is good.

Is this under the hood or in the cab? I tried swapping all the relays around last night under the hood and nothing worked.

In the PDC, under the hood. Starter relay is in there.

Have you tried to start the truck in neutral?
