1996 ram 1500 rear end swap with a 2000-2001
I purchased a 96 v8 5.2 L manual ram from my foreman about 2 months ago rear differential was shot. I purchased a rear with the same ratio which was a 9.25 axle with 3.55 gear ratio. When I removed the old rear I realized that the emergency brake cable was a bit different along with the drum brake set up. Salvage yard gave me what i believe is a 2000-2001 rear with a limited slip. I also realized the side of the differential facing towards the front has a flange with volt holes to attach a bracket for the ujoint that’s attached to the drive shaft. On the old rear it has a different set up. Now my question is will this axle work for my truck? Do I need a new driveshaft or just that bracket? Thank you in advance for any input!

I have a 97 dodge ram 1500 sport 4x4 and the sticker says it has a Chrysler 9.25 rear w/a 3.55 gear ratio and now I also have a 01 dodge ram 1500 4x4 w/extended cab and short bed and the sticker on that truck says it has a corporate 9 rear w/a 3.55 gear ratio and anti-spin differential .....
my question is can I take the rear off the 97 and put it on the 01?

Yeah the connector is different but if he used the sensor from the same year truck rearend, he's golden.

Update **
it will work as they are both the same. The drum set up is different and you will have more shoe surface contacting the drum which is better. The emergency brake setup will work. With the rear driveshaft you should just need the bracket and then it will use 4 bolts to secure it to the pinion.
So just and update I found a bracket at a driveshaft shop near by. Perfect match while I was there I had he drive shaft balanced and u joints replaced. Emergency brake cables from the 2000-01 year has a diffrent spring which I’m have trouble finding anywhere and are not included in the drum brake hardware kit and it’s discontinued at mopar. Other than that so far so good the bolts for the drive shaft were purchased at the dealer and torqued to 50 ft/lbs will top off the fluids and hope for the best.

In his case, its the same rear end. Maybe change the pinion flange, but, aside from that, direct bolt in. Connector for the wheel speed sensor on top of the diff is also different, just install the correct year (for the truck it is going into) sensor.
