Are there 2 types of steering knuckles for D60 for 00-02? Which is which?
I was looking at getting some 00-02 D60 steering knuckles for the purpose of upgrading my truck to dual piston caliper brakes and wondering about where it would leave me with respect to possible future T steering system upgrades. I was pokiing around Google and saw this response by FWheeler editor John Cappas to a reader trying to upgrade his 96 3/4 ton.
John seems to indicate there may be a couple of different knuckles.

Can anybody here elaborate on this at all? I don't want to order anything until I figure it out.

In addition to a dissimilar pitman arm taper that requires a different drag link, some ’00-’02 trucks are said to have a different taper at the steering knuckles too. If you are working with a ’00-’02 truck with the oddball knuckle taper, these parts will not fit.

2000 and above have a different taper then the 99 and down on the knuckles. 2000 and above can use the 4th gen T steering. Just have to cut some threads on one of the TREs. They also use a different pitman arm.
awesome. Thank you.
I've been kind of looking at that DodgeOR high steer kit. It covers all years rs from 94-12 but with options depending on year of vehicle it is intended for. Once, I've confused the issue by switching my truck over to non stock steering knuckles to get my bigger brakes, I suppose It will be very easy to order the wrong thing and I'll probably have to send it back a couple times before I get it right...haha

Do you really have to go with different knuckles to upgrade to better calipers - that is won't the large single piston calipers and shoes work on your rig and provide a big upgrade in stopping power at a lot lower cost? I did that along steel braided lines on the 1998 ram 2500 D60 truck front axle that's under my van and it stops REALLY well for such a pig... I may be missing something - that's not uncommon... :-)
for steering, lots of good options... I wound up using the dodge modified t set-up and am about to switch to a different Pittman arm and make a new drag link with gm 1 ton tie rod ends... If I had it to do over again, I'd probably just build a crossover set up based on gm 1-ton TREs from Barnes4x4 or somewhere else... Much stronger and more freedom to set geometry up like you want it... all yu have to do is drill the knuckles out for for tapered inserts for the bigger TREs and then cut and weld (or have welded) DOM tubing for the tie rods and drag link... Just some thoughts...

wca_tim have to vs want to.I'm not claiming great brakes can't be had with single piston calipers. Never said that. Every one of those mods you mentioned would work even better on a dual caliper system than single caliper system...that's the point. Dual caliper systems are better and I'm willing to pay extra to get a better system, cool?
