Default 426 Stroker

Hi I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 and I'm going to be rebuilding my 5.9L Magnum 360 into a 426 Stroker and would like to know if there is a PCM mod for this or would the stock PCM accept the motor just fine. I know 96 and up being OBD2 have flash mods for it however this is a 95 and OBD1

You will probably need to buy a controller

Stock PCM won't have a clue how to run that. Ever consider upgrading to OBDII? PCM and wiring harness out of a 96 or 97 would work, but, you would need the trans as well. (if yours is automatic anyway.) I think it would make your life easier, and would likely be cheaper than a standalone controller.

I have though about changing the wiring harness, may just convert it to non computer controlled

426 is an effort of futility unless you convert to LA heads for more flow. Even then a 408 is more reliable and cheaper to build while making virtually the same power figures

the heads I'm going with are magnum design heads from Hughes Engines and as well as the Stroker kit, no need to convert to LA style heads as the intake I'm going with is an edelbrock air gap intake with a FiTech Setup, the Magnum heads are better then LA heads either way if I went 408 or 426 still have to deal with the PCM which is the basis of this thread.

You misunderstood what i was getting at. The available cylinder heads for these magnum engines have a hard enough time supporting a mild 408 without thousands of dollars investment in porting. LA engines have much higher flowing units available. In fact LA heads are actually superior in the aftermarket because of both flow and valvetrain. Magnum are only better if you're comparing stock to stock. The engines are simply too large though. Air gap is also a poor choice of intake for such a build because of the same thing. Too small

Everything I'm going with is through Hughes Engines and are specifically done for the build in going with, I'm going with the air gap manifold as it is designed to work with the magnum style bolt pattern and I'm going with a FiTech FI setup, I could go with magnum heads that have the LA intake bolt pattern and go that way but would be more money than what I want to spend, I also though about going with an intake the has FI ports and going with a Mopar Performance 4BBL Throttle Body however it is cheaper for me to go with the FiTech setup

The top end is the same as any mild magnum setup. I would at least consider a Mopar 4bbl M1 manifold vs the Edelbrock. Much more supportive for such a setup

I'm not doing this for top end, this is for my truck and I'm going for more bottom end torque than anything else which is why the longer stroke, I do like the Mopar setup but will need to get bigger injectors to support it however depending on which way my finances go I may go with the 408 but needless to say and I still have to deal with the PCM as it is different than non PCM, I understand and respect all replies, comments and advises that you all have and it will help me with decisions on which way I will go. I am dealing with Hughes Engines and also going to check out a few places the do PCM programming and see what my options are
