Plenum gasket question...
Get copper plugs for it. I prefer NGK. I've had really good results with Standard Motor Products ignition parts from Rock Auto. Don't let a local parts store sell you BWD, it's complete junk. I used Felpro gaskets on my truck. I just ground the ends off the plenum bolts and reused the steel plate. I tore the gasket between the timing cover and oil pan when I did the timing chain, so I had to drop the oil pan. Search for "95 oxidizer special" I have quite a few pictures in that thread.
Don't move the distributor! The ignition timing is completely controlled by the ECM. Turning the distributor adjusts fuel sync (timing of the fuel injectors). That's why I recommend the timing chain. If it's loose, it affects your ignition and injection timing.
