Default O/D button won't light or truck won't kick down

Hey there, new to owning a Dodge and recently bought a 96 ram 1500 5.9mag auto 4x4. I was recently driving on the highway and when I hit the O/D button on the dash it didn't light up and the truck never downshifted. Where do I begin to diagnose the issue? While driving it shifts into all 4 gears.

The O/D off button just sends a signal to the PCM. The PCM takes it from there. So, need to see if you get power to the switch, and if pressing the button actually gets the signal back to the PCM. Grab the service manual for your truck from here, check out the wiring diagram, and see what ya got.
