Default Transmission interchangeability

I just cracked my bellhousing on my transmission and cant afford to get a brand new one. What other dodge trucks can I use the transmission out of? Its a 1996 1500 4x4 5spd manual with a 318. If anyone has a link to a chart or knows off hand any help would be greatly appreciated.

Isn't the bellhousing part of the trans housing on that one?

Its all one piece. But the break is in the bellhousing. Im sure I can weld it up but the trans has other issues as well.

If it's all one piece, you can't just replace the bellhousing...... Need a whole 'nother case. Should be able to use the manual trans out of any 4x4 1500 from 94 to 01.

I knew that one. I just needed to know if there were other dodge models I could use one out of. I have heard I could use one out of a v6 Dakota or a 2500 but I was looking for second opinions.

According to Wikipedia the NV3500 was used in these applications within your year range.

1994 - 2001 Dodge Ram 1500
1994 - 2004 Dodge Dakota

I would look for it in a 1996 Ram 1500 or a 1996 Dodge Dakota just to be sure all the sensor plugs are the same so you won't need to do any rewire or extra work when swapping them around.

It did say that it's also available in 1994 - 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 Light Duty but I don't know if it used all the same sensors or if they added any extras in 1996 when they switched to OBDII.

Actually, it's a two piece housing with integrated bell housing. And GM used it also from 1988-2006 but called it the Getrag 290. Dodge continued it until 05 in the 1500s behind the Magnum 3.7 and 4.7.

I'll keep that in mind thank you. But the transmission in my truck currently is a 1 piece.

I think as long as the dimensions are the same, the bolt pattern is the same, and it hooks up 100% mechanically then 2 piece vs 1 piece doesn't really matter.... I'm no Transmission mechanic though. :/

Ive just got one shot on doing this. So I have to make sure i get the right one. Im thinking if I go to pullapart and get the Chevy 5 speed and a dodge bellhousing i should be good. At least from what I'm gathering from research and y'all.
