46re tranny can I fab a mount for diff sensor
This may be a redundant question but couldn’t find an answer. I bought a sensor kit for my 2000 ram 1500 and it has the plastic sensor where mine is the metal one with a clip. Are the electric functions the same? If I fabricate a bracket to hold in place, will it work just as well? Don’t want to have to buy a whole new ki. Another option would maybe to find the later bracket that has the L-piece?

My question would become: Why are you replacing the electronics in the first place? If you are having an issue, that has been determined to be caused by the electronics, then replacement with the CORRECT parts is the ONLY option. Do not jerry-rig anything in your trans, as it will likely cause more problems than it solves. You can always sell the parts that are wrong.
Just recently got truck and wasn’t getting overdrive from the start. From what I’m hearing there was a mid-year change in 2000 with those sensors. To complicate things more, previous owner did replace the pcm at one point. Makes me wonder if he the new pcm was programmed for the newer sensor. Could be why I have the problem in the first place.

Entirely possible....... Check the part number on the PCM, and see if there is a sticker for 'authorized software update', and see if you can determine what year truck the PCM came from. Might have to have the dealer verify it for you.... Don't know if any independent shops would have that capability... Worst case, just have the dealer flash it for the correct engine/trans combo, and then you KNOW it's right. (either that, or get an aftermarket tuner for correct year/engine/trans, and pick up some ponies as well. More expensive, but, that would be my choice.

Then see if the trans works right with the existing electronics, if not, swap 'em out for the correct year stuff.
