Smoke Screw Adjustment.
Hey guys I need some quick clarification.
If I adjust the smoke screw (pre-boost screw) out (toward the cab) does that increase the black smoke or decrease it?
Im wanting a lot of black smoke and am having trouble achieving that goal.
Here are my current mods-
4” Stainless turbo back exhaust (Diamond Eye)
BHAF
#0 fuel plate
star wheel bumped 15 clicks towards the engine
flat washer install on AFC diaphragm
and smoke screw in flush with the lock nut

You understand that the black smoke you are pouring out is unburnt fuel, and various other pollutants? I have no clue where the idea that belching pollutants into the air wholesale was either 'cool' or 'a good idea'.......
Its springtime and yesterday I saw baby ducks and baby gooses. You can't really want those little creatures to be breathing your black smoke. The bottom line here is that if you're making smoke, it's an indication that your truck has something wrong with it. It will certainly have less power, use more fuel, not last as long, and stink. For the majority of observers, its an indication that you are unable to maintain your truck and are mechanically challenged and/or generally don't give a **** about anyone else. Its like waving a flag that says "I'm an A**Hole.
...just sayin.

Take the fuel plate out and gut the afc, that will get you as much fuel that's possible with the stock injectors and delivery valves. It will only smoke at lower rpms when you lug it, the turbo will clean up the smoke pretty well once it spools. If you want more power beond that you will need bigger injectors and delivery valves, along with adjusting the injection timing. If you don't already you should have boost and egt gauges before you do any mods.

In not going to tell you what to do, but will tell you it actually hurts your engine. Don't believe me call any Cummins shop. Now taking it out towards the cab should give you more black smoke. Just save up for a rebuild and you'll be fine
