How do you know they have cracked? I have good oil pressure and she doesn't use oil

It'll leak coolant. Cracks go into the water jacket.

Should be able to find some good pics on google image search for where the 53 is located. Quick and easy check. Even if you have one, I wouldn't worry about it unless/until it becomes a problem. Either way, make sure you keep good coolant in it, and that it will protect you down to however cold it gets where you are.

I was also told they have bearing failures bur that could be wrong.

U-joint has inner C-clips, should've come whit them. Install those and cups should stay in place.

IIRC, 53-block was problem with 24 valves, not 12 valves.

Yeah the one I was sold (u joint) did not have those clips, darn parts guy
I am going to try Napa and see if they have one.
Otherwise I have to order on line

Look it up and get the spicer part # and go from there. They will probably try to sell you some other manufacture.

Did you check that the front axle isn't locked up from a differential failure ? That could explain the turning problems and the blown u-joint as well.
