Cracks go into the water jacket.Should be able to find some good pics on google image search for where the 53 is located. Quick and easy check. Even if you have one, I wouldn't worry about it unless/until it becomes a problem. Either way, make sure you keep good coolant in it, and that it will protect you down to however cold it gets where you are.

U-joint has inner C-clips, should've come whit them. Install those and cups should stay in place.
IIRC, 53-block was problem with 24 valves, not 12 valves.

Look it up and get the spicer part # and go from there. They will probably try to sell you some other manufacture.
