Plenum gasket
99 ram 1500. 5.9. Just replaced the intake & plenum gasket. It fixed the issues I was having.... now the temp runs about 210 on a 30 min trip. Thought thermostat was bad so took it out.. currently no thermostat, cooling system is all open.. no blockage. Seems high to me... outside temp is about 60
Likely you still have air trapped in the cooling system somewhere. They are notorious difficult to bleed out...... Put a new stat in there, (stant, or similar brand please, skip the 'safety' stats, they suck.) and try again. Try and get the front of the truck as high as you can. Steep hill, or ditch, anything to get the radiator to be the highest point in the system.

Moving this to second gen ram section for ya.

Also, keep in mind, the temp gauges in these trucks aren't the most accurate things in the world......

I recently did a plenum gasket, thermostat, thermostat housing, water pump and gasket and my temperature indicator always reads about 180 which is the type of thermostat I put in. Is there anyway I can make sure the temp readings are actually accurate so I’m not driving my truck at high temps and not realize it?
