Default 01 24v Idle and driving issues

Have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 5.9 H.O 6 speed with 301xxx miles Dropped the tank changed the sending unit and when I put it back up bolted everything back in drove it for about 20 miles when it warmed up completly it was stutter buck and jump like trying to learn how to drive a manual and it would also smoke blue and white smoke I tested to see if the head gasket was good redone all the fuel lines it also has a fass lift pump on it and also have a inline filter behind the lift pump my edge tuner says I have 33psi steady in fuel pressure at idle and when I drive I’m brand new to any kind of forms ever I feel stumped on this

I would be tempted to revisit the repairs in the tank. Make sure everything is up to snuff.

Welcome to DF!

It only does it when it warms up if it was an error in the tank when I put it back up wouldn’t it do it all the time not just when it’s ran and warmed up

it Throw 0216 for vp44 timing and 0252 and also 0235 but I figured if it was a bad vp44 it wouldn’t be specifically only right as the motor warms up and I don’t have a dead pedal so when it starts studdering I can hit the gas and it still responds and it’s getting 33psi of fuel pressure until it warms up it runs like a scolded dog

Is that a feedback system? Is there an O2 sensor in the exhaust? If there is, I would unplug it, and see if the problem goes away.

There is no o2 sensors on a Diesel. For the fuel pressure 33 psi is about double what it should be, the vp44 is sensitive to fuel pressure, low fuel pressure is what kills them most often but high fuel pressure isn't good either. 14-17 psi is ideal. Do you have the Fass pump with the adjustable regulator? If so you can turn it down, if it's the non adjustable it sounds like it has the wrong pressure regulator spring in it.

It’s a non adjustable so that mean since the pressure is so high it’s probably already damage the vp44 or it’s the cause of it shutting off when warm

Figured out the issue it was my lift pump I hooked the tool I rented from oreilys up to it before the vp44 and it was at like 12psi then when I gave it throttle it about dropped to 0 hopefully I didn’t fry my vp44 in the midst of finding all this out
