The largest that tire mfg recommend for 7" is 265-75/16 but you can run 285 or 295 depending on brand. I've used three different 285s now and all were slightly different size and wore uniquely. Also seen plenty of 295, 305, and 315 running around on stock wheels. The proper setup is at least 16x8 with 5" lift and centered axle for 35s. But Lord knows nobody really follows that. You'll have to decide what you want based on usage and budget then find a tire shop to install beyond specs. I've never had a problem with a shop installing larger tires but some have.

And what the heck??? IFS???? What planet is this guy from? All 2nd gen 4x4 trucks are solid Dana's, 44 and 60. Sheesh.
Hello! Sorry for such a delayed response. This post was really helpful for me. Final question, So will a 5in lift, 16x8 wheels, and 35s cause rubbing? Also, I'm wondering what offset I should be aiming for, because a lot of the 16x8 wheels have 0 offset. Would that cut it? I'm not trying to go for a super aggressive build with wheels sticking out, but rather a good looking, more modest off-road machine. However I don't want any rubbing. the RC lift I want recommends 4 inches of backspacing but says nothing about offset.

Basically, on a 8" wide wheel the 0 offset almost equals 4" backspacing, but actual BS number is 4.2ish.

So then would a 16x10 be more suitable for my build? At least to meet the requirements and not have any rubbing?

Zero backspacing is perfect as I understand it. Most aftermarket wheels are going to look good and not rub. It's the stock wheels that are the problem. Also, the new control arms will be thinner and round tubing so they help with the added clearance too.

And some lift kits even come with lower control arms specifically designed to give you more clearance. Of course, they charge for that feature accordingly.

Currently running 315/75r16 Firestone MTs (almost 35s) on stock rims with a 3 inch lift.

Tires rub a little on control arms at full turn. Rubbing is not a big deal. Will only turn that hard at low speeds in and out of parking spots.
