Default 98 Dodge Ram 1500 Transmission Issues

Need some help. First timer here. My truck revs to 3-4000 rpms before it will change from 1st to 2nd and sometimes 2nd to 3rd but fine after that. Did have P0740 code when cel was on and I’ve replaced all the solenoids, TPS and transmission output sensor, but nothing has worked. Looking at torque converter next. Any other suggestions? It’s 46RE.

Have you adjusted the bands? Replace the governor pressure sensor/solenoid?

Moving this to second gen ram section for ya.

Thanks. I have changed all 4 solenoids and TPS sensor. Bands had very little play so I didn’t adjust. I did notice I have a leak coming from where trans bolts to motor. Also had an issue the other where it didn’t want to go. It was very sluggish but shifted smooth.

Band adjustment is supposed to be a maintenance item ever 30 or 60K miles..... If it hasn't been done for a while, it needs to happen.

Tighten the adjuster down to 72 INCH pounds, then back 'em off 2 turns, and lock 'em in place. Ignore the factory specs.

Did band adjustments today with no luck. I’m learning as I go and the next thing seems to be torque converter since I’ve done everything else related to P0740 code. Any help is appreciated.

Is the PCM actually trying to lock the torque converter? I do believe that only comes into play in third gear. The shifting very late is a different problem. Have you adjusted your TV cable??

I did adjust the TV cable today to. TC seems to lock in. Once I get past 1st and 2nd it shifts fine and RPMs are normal. It use to downshift once it got to 3rd and would shift twice after it did that so I had filter and fluid changed and after about a week it started not shifting until I got it between 3-4000 rpms and let off the gas. Also when I slow down for a turn and start to get my speed up it will jump from 2000-4000 rpms once you hit 2000 without pushing the pedal anymore. Thanks for the help.
