Default Broken spark plug

Son in law went to change the spark plugs in the 99 1500 4x4 & had managed to break #6 off. Sounds like the only part left in the head is the portion with the treads. Any good advice on how to extract it? He's been playing with an easy out, but I told him to be very careful to avoid making the problem worse by breaking it off too. In all my years of mechanics, I've never broken a plug off (but I've never had to work on a 5.4L ford either).
thanks
Mike S

Easy out is going to be the best bet.... Just be CAREFUL. Some chems sure wouldn't hurt either.

Using one of the square type easy outs he was able to break it free. What a mess....
