Cleaning out my 5.9 V8 and making improvements
Hi everybody so I'm currently working on cleaning out my trucks engine, have been using Marvel Mystery oil I had my oil changed today after leaving the MMO in there for about 1,000 miles and topping it off as the engine does consume a bit at about 180,000 miles, I use 10w30. The previous owner didnt take care of the truck at all so after myself taking care of Sebastian for 4-5 years and changing out the sway bar links and bushings, shock absorbers, steering components, and a million trips to the shop. I finally know that the truck is tough and overall safe on the road so my main goal is to clean out the engine and make improvements. The oil was absolutely disgusting so the MMO is definitely working, considering it changes the viscosity should I just continue putting it in for the rest of the trucks life with the 10w30 to make sure the engine stays clean? I'm planning on making some improvements within the year gonna have some Pacesetter headers(p#72C1315) installed soon unless I leave for the army before I get the chance, waiting for tax returns. Have seen some outstanding changes on the dyno switching from the stock manifolds to these headers from low-high rpms on a stock truck on hot rod articles. Is there any suggestions to what else to do to clean out the engine besides taking it apart? Or should I just keep doing what I'm doing with the MMO? Also should I have the same shop that's doing the headers bore out the stock throttle body or just leave it as it is?

42 years ago, I worked in a Napa.
There was a Valvoline factory engineer I met and I ask him about flushes
Back in those days, there were lots of engines that were caked up with sludge, mainly due to non detergent oil and carbs. IMO.
His position was, "do not use engine flushes"
Said the grit and sludge could stop up the pick up screen, then starve the motor for oil.
He said it was best to use a high detergent oil and change often until it clears up.
He explained that the detergents would dissolve the sludge and suspend it in the oil......

Alright so with the diesel engine oil how often should I change the oil since the engine is so awful? Or should I just determine it by the oil. I had no idea that there is an actual engine flush product but I figured something like that would be an issue, because it wouldn't just disappear obviously all that sludge has to go somewhere.
