Electrical nightmare
Bought a used Ram, 1999 2500. Ran great o test runs, ran great home and the next day. Unfortunately that was it.
Next day truck would not start. Found that the positive cable overheated, melted the coating.
Changed out cable and checked all fuses nothing. Changed out some relays, fuel pump, nothing.
Suggested to me that the computer may have been damaged due to the condition of the battery cable. Replaced computer, pre programmed plug and play. Put it in and truck attempted to start on the first couple attempts then went back to nothing.
If I prime it the fuels does start the engine then once that fuel is burned - nothing.
Any suggestions ?

yes I can hear the pump charge up and there is fuel is the rails
Does the pump continue to run once the engine starts? (I know, hard to hear.....) I might also be tempted to put a pressure gauge on it, and see what fuel pressure is actually doing. Might just be a weak pump relay. Could try swapping it with the horn relay, (assuming your horn works) and see if anything changes.
I may still have the box out at the property (where the truck is resting) I know it was purchased at Car Quest though. Is this significant ?

Yes. It is. Not all fuel pumps are created equal. Some brands have an absolutely horrid reputation for parts being bad right out of the box, or failing rather quickly....... (days, to weeks after installation.)
