Default 5.2l engine rattle noise

Hello fella's!

Last weeks i'm getting some engine rattle on cold starts, even every now and then it gives a clunk noise when i rev.
My engine seems to run fine, it runs smooth on idle, and it preforms as it should. And the noise does go away and come back. So for example when my engine is still hot and i start it after 15mins, there's no noise, but like 5mins later it comes! I'm having some trouble getting a decent video about it 😝 ****ty phone!

I've been doing some research and i've came to conclusion it might be a lifter going bad.. If i pull the intake, could i just replace the lifters? After taking dissambling the rockers & rods.. could it be done with the heads on and engine in the bay?
And most of all, does it sound logic to you guys it's a bad lifter?

Thanks in advance!

Supposedly, you can swap lifters without pulling heads. It's tight, but doable. But, don't just change one or two, if you are going to do it, change ALL of them.

Check the bolts from flex plate to torque converter if you have an automatic, might be loose.

Can you have someone rev the engine while you are looking at it to try to isolate where the noise is coming from? Dont want go through all the hassle of replacing the lifters just to find out the noise is coming from a different part of the engine

It's not the flex plate, or torque convertor bolts, had this before.. different sound and more from mid engine.
It does seem to speed up with the rpm.

My car has 253 000 miles on it.

Have you tried taking the serpentine belt off and running to see if helps isolate the noise a little better? I find a mechanics stethoscope handy for pinpointing noises a little better. Just make sure the engine is cool before you take the belt off and run it.

Yes , i've ran it without the serpentine belt. It still comes and goes the noise! It really sounds a mechanical rattle/ticking noise coming from mid engine. I believe if it would be my valves themselves i'd have it consistently. And not comming up and going away..

I also forgot to say, my mpg has dropped a little since. Seems like i do 30miles less on a filled tank.

Always been on time with maintenance. And it's actually the first time i'm having some serious engine noises..

Thanks in advance,

Yes, doesn't come from the cat, it's really engine related in my opinion. I'll try and see if i can get it on video
