I see different temperatures on the thermostats on autozone's website. 160F-195F....which do you recommend?
195 will keep your computer from staying in "open loop" mode. That's just to warm up in cold weather and will really suck the fuel for little gain. The engine is just happier when warmed up and on cold days you'll be happier too with a HOT heater.
180 will lower your fuel economy, and if it gives you any more power, it won't be noticeable, and it's entirely possible it will annoy the PCM, and set a code. Stick with the 195 stat, unless you have a custom tune that expects a lower temp stat.
I slightly disagree. When Chrysler built these motors and tuned them they used a 180° thermostat. Which should get you the advertised power and should help with fuel economy. I mostly run it because of towing in hot weather
That's why they are programmed to whine about engine too cold too long when you install a 180 degree stat?
According to my books up to 98 they recommend a 180° stat. After that no mention of it. Maybe because of the death flash? I'm unsure :b just getting the knowledge out there. I thought about scanning my books and having them put into the FAQ section.

Unless I'm racing a carbureted engine, I always go in the 190-195 range. Especially with F.I. More power, better heat, better fuel economy and less sludging in the engine case.If they don't have a jiggle valve, I still drill a 1/64 hole to keep from air locking the engine.

Drilling the hole is the best advice anyone can give
