Default empty the gas tank with the fuel pump

I pulled the engine/trans out of the 2nd gen, its getting parted out. We think there was close to a full tank when it was in the accident..... wondering if I should jumper the fuel pump wiring and empty the tank, in iterative fashion, into a 5 gallon jerry can. Figure I can burn it in the replacement truck. Wondering how strong that will flow out of the fuel line that I cut near the back of the manifold. Likely I'll use a relay to avoid a spark...

That's a fair bit of money to just give away. I would do my best to drain that tank into one I was planning on keeping.

Quick google search gave lot of aftermarket diesel pump gph's, not so much for gassers. But did find a Walbro 255 which is an upgrade pump for many applications, including Dodge, and it puts out 67 gallons in a hour, so it's safe to assume to stock pump flow less than that. I think you can find specific info from the FSM.

On My fuel pump there is a siphoning port for draining the tank.

I wrote a thread about this several years ago. It has directions on draining a gas tank using your fuel pump:

I usually just drop the tank. Raise a floor jack under it and remove the mounting straps. Lower it a little and remove the hoses and electrical connections. Clamp the fill and vent hoses with a C clamp and a couple of pieces of 2X4's. You'll need an extra pair of hands, or two, and you can lower the tank. Then you can put a siphon pump into the hole made when you remove the fuel pump. You can also just let it sit for a day or two while you move the fuel to your other vehicles. Once you transfer it, you now have an extra fuel pump and fuel tank.

That is great info... but the accident completely mashed the fuse panel on the fender... because the harness was pretty damaged, I just used a reciprocating saw to cut through any harness in the way.... guess that was short sighted! Perhaps I can figure it out with wire colors.. I was a little concerned it'd spray out so hard and fast that I'd not be able to collect it in the can.

An option for sure, but I like the idea of pumping it out and making it light before cutting the straps.... I"m in the rust zone, and there is no way those straps bolts are coming out.

No, still running the 3rd gen as a replacement. Its coming along; I've got a small stack of upgrades to install this year ( power seat, power windows, sport bumpers front and rear, new shocks, etc).

Recently I stumbled into a nice looking 1999 with 75k miles, SLT reg cab 2500... but it was pretty expensive for what it is,,, and the fleet has already filled the garage, driveway, and is spilling into the street...

I'm selling everything I have that is 2nd gen specific because I'm really out of storage space, and the truck didn't have comprehensive insurance when it was wrecked - so I'm trying to recover some of the investment. So when the tank is empty, the tank and pump are for sale as well as everything else 2nd gen I have.
