Default 2001 1500 cab swap to 98 chassis

Hey everyone! I’m swapping a 2001 ram 1500 cab onto my 98 chassis and noticed while getting ready to take the cab off after taking off all the harnesses that’s there are different plugs for the injectors, alternator, starter, and also the plugs at the drivers side bottom part of the cab that runs to the rear of the frame as there is 2 plugs on my 98 and only 1 plug on the 2001. My question is it possible to just swap the computer and harness from my 98 to the 2001 cab with much having to be changed or am I creating a wiring issue if I do that. The harness that goes into the cab has the same 2 plugs at the junction for the interior can I get away with just plug and play? Why or why not. Any help with knowledge about this would be appreciated

98-1/2 there was lots of changes.
So vehicles from the second half of the year can be bastards with leftover bits from 98’s.

I believe 5/31/98 is when the last of the 98’s was built... beyond that is 98-1/2.

Check the wiring diagrams for both to compare.

You will need EVERYTHING from the 98 and use in the 01. Everything changed from where wires go to more advanced electrictronics

Default Cab swap

My next question would be about the vin. If I swap the computer and harness from the 98cab to the 01 cab what will I be looking at doing to get the vin taken care of? Will I have to have the computer programmed to cab of the truck? I am not familiar with the vin problem. Any help would be great

Vin wouldn't matter as long as you use your dash frame with the original VIN. But if there are shops around that have high end scanners they can change the VIN in the computer.

Default wiring harness removal on 98

I removed the fuse and cab junction harness from 2001 cab and do not have matching pins to the 98 cab wiring harness. Going to be pulling the dash on both truck to switch as well as steering column. Will keep updated on switching the dash boards out

You literally need everything out of the 01 except your dash plastic or frame (I forget what the VIN is riveted to)

i have some proper vin tag rivets if you are interested.
to change the tags i think the windshield needs to be removed. it's riveted to the body, not the dash.

My 98 the VIN tag was riveted to the dash... theres a tab at the front edge where it goes.

A good thing to remember to do if swapping dashes... could easily be overlooked.
