Default Hacking/flashing 99 ram 1500 pcm 5.9v8

Tried searching with 5 different terms but coming up short of what I’m looking for. Is there a way to connect a pc (laptop) to the factory 5.9 pcm (ecu) and read the existing fuel and ignition map and possibly edit it? I have an idea for a very minor power adder I want to put on my current 5.9 (which has 122k) but I want to be sure I can cheaply and easily edit the fuel and ignition maps (just a smidge) before I start fabricating parts. I’ve got a fair bit of experience with making things, including small microprocessor controlled robots, and I’ve read that the dealership had the ability to re-flash the pcm just using the CAN interface (often referred to as the OBD-2 plug) and that’s what I’m trying to figure out how to hack via. Has anyone done this successfully on a 2nd gen Ram or am I going to need to just send my pcm to someone like Hughes to have them reprogram it to my desired spec, or worse, switch to a full standalone system?

Your truck doesn't use the CAN BUS system it uses PCI. Yes you can program from a laptop but you need the software to do it and an OBDll plug to USB plug.

Do you happen to know a good software example that can do that? I know of romraider and tunerpro, which are two free software flashing versions that a lot of the jap car guys locally use.

I do not. I know how the systems operate. Never tuned a car because I don't know enough. I just upgrade the engines. That's why I'm swapping a Hemi in my Ram instead of the 360

HP Tuners (they advertise on this site.) has the software you need, along with the hardware to go with it. (you need to supply your own laptop.) I think its in the neighborhood of 5-600 bucks for a single vehicle license though. It just ain't cheap. I have not found any freeware that will do the job.

None. Because it doesn't exist. You can find it for older GM cars, but, nothin' for Dodge.
