Default New member need help

So I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 it had the 318 but was swapped with a 2001 360 . I have the pcm for both motors but was told the 2001 pcm was from a 2wd I’m not sure if that matters ? But Would the 2001 pcm work I read somewhere they would work but would need to change some sensors ? And if I were to just buy a new pcm what year would I need .. the 98 5.9 or a 2001 5.9 and have it reprogrammed. Also doesn’t have o/d or cruise control I know that could be sensor and solenoid related but was curious if the wrong pcm would make that happen as well? Thank you very much and glad to apart of the DF

The 01 PCM programming won't work on the 98 automatic trans. Sensors are different.

You could just get your original PCM flashed to the larger motor. They did come from the factory with them after all. Or, get one of the aftermarket tuners for the correct engine/trans combo.

Ok makes since I have the 01 pcm in right now I have a tuner but it’s just a flashpaq tuner don’t believe it’s the right kind to do that but it runs just not the greatest . I’ll look into getting the 98 reprogrammed. Do you think that would cause the o/d and cc to not be working?

It will certainly stop the O/D from working, the cruise control is probably another issue. Does the light in the dash come on when you turn cruise on??

For that I was gonna start at the switch and go from there just more concerned about the pcm feel like that where I need to start because it’s clearly the wrong one in the truck atm called a shop to see how much it’ll cost to reprogram had to leave a message so now I wait haha

Yeah, get the PCM dealt with first, that may solve a bunch of problems.

Wait hold up. There's a cruise control light on these trucks?

My 98 has cruise control and it works fine just I never ever got a light or anything... Hmm. Learn something new everyday.

Yep if you have the side cruise buttons it will say "CRUISE" in green on the dash
