Default Towing capacity change a bit?

Hello everyone. I recently swapped gears on my 1996 1500 4x4 5.9 extended cab short box to 4.10 gears. I mainly did this because of the 33" tires I have on it now. Would my towing capacity slightly change with these gears? Or does it pretty much equal out as it was before. Truck as some mods done to it . But it is an automatic. From what I read these trucks are around 7500 pound range ?
cheers everyone!

Probably a wash, as with the larger tires, your overall gear ratio is likely pretty close to what it was when the truck was bone stock.

That said, the 4.10 gears will make towing much less of an ordeal, and your transmission will thank you for it.

Ya I figured so..ya that's why I also added an tru cool after market cooler. A b and m deep pan with a gauge to monitor the heat. I have not towed my camper with the new gears yet so I'm curious to see if there will be a difference. So is the towing capacity 7500 pounds on these trucks ?

Right in that neighborhood. Finding actual numbers defining it is rather difficult. Best bet would be to call the dealer, and see what they have to say. One would think they would be able to find out.....

If you pulled it before with the stock gears, and big tires, you will definitely notice an improvement with the new gears.

Ya I have towed it before with the 3.55 it was a dog getting up to speed. Really nerve racking merging on the highway so really excited to see the difference. Ya I guess i could call the dealer. I was just thinking of maybe upgrading to something a tiny but bigger . Want to keep it under the max towing capacity

Yeah, I think if ya wanna tow something heavier than 7500, going to a 3/4 ton truck would be the best plan. MUCH bigger brakes on the heavier trucks. After all, I believe that being able to STOP whatever it is you are hauling, is a bit more important than making it move quickly.

Maybe upgrade your brakes a bit if you want to get closer to that 7500..... The light duty 3/4 ton calipers will bolt right on, (have larger pistons) and the 3/4 ton wheel cylinders (or even one ton) will as well. Makes a BIG difference in brake performance. (wear your seatbelt, else you will be in danger of being launched thru the windshield. )

Yep! Need the 2500 LD pads and calipers and I went with Chevy 1 ton wheel cylinders (even bigger than Dodge). My biggest improvement was Hydroboost
