Default 1997 3500 with headlight issues

I have read through a bunch of posts as to why the switch screws up etc. What I haven't seen is which coloured wire(s) do I splice the relay into? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You can look the colors from the connector at the headlight.

Have you read this? The headlights are only half the issue. Usually the connector will show signs of heat/melting on both the headlight and running light leads.

I purchased a new molex because it had overheated. I see someone has been in there previously as they installed a new spliced in wiring/molex unit. It was all done in factory matching coloured wires. My truck was assembled a few weeks after the recall was done so did not qualify for the recall. If I have the lights on for a period of time I can feel the warmth in the wires. It is funny that they went through with installing a new pigtail but didn't do the one extra step of wiring in a relay. When I installed the new switch, I found that it doesn't allow the roof lights to be on at the same time the headlights are. It seems the contacts are not exactly placed right. If I pull out the switch partially the roof lights come on with the tail lights and dash lights (but no headlights). Pull it a bit further and everything goes out except the headlights come on (brake lights work all the time). What a pain in the ***....

That sounds like a cheap headlight switch, I had replaced mine like three times(cheapo from autozone) and then got sick of doing it so spent the money on a good quality switch and plug and no issues so far. You can put a relay in for the headlights and replace the others with leds. This will drop the amp load greatly going threw the switch.

Get the heavy duty relay harness from LMC truck. It's plug and play.

I was looking at that. How are their switches? I was going to see why mine is screwed up so bad and try to fix it but sometimes it isn't worth the time and effort. Thanks

No switches involved. It's just a harness that plugs into the current headlight connectors, and a couple relays. Hook a couple wires up to the battery, plug in the connectors, and you are done. Took me about ten minutes to install mine.

my switch, even though it is brand new, is working like crap. I might as well replace it again if I am installing the relays. How is the quality of LMC's switches?
