Default 97 dodge 1500 5.9 harmonic balancer

Harmonic balancer completely broke. The one that is on the truck is a two piece but all the part stores and dodge only has a 1 piece. Is it OK to put the 1 piece on? How will I have to remove everything with it being broke?

The design changed on the newer trucks. You *should* still be able to get the two-piece feller...... but, if not, so long as the balancer is indeed for the 5.9 (externally balanced) it'll work.

Use a gear puller on the old one. Or, you might just get lucky, and be able to pop it off with a couple screwdrivers, prying behind it.

I was told that the 1 piece was for the 5.9. I will try it and see what it does. Thanks for the info.

Some are on tighter than others, I wouldn't try prying it if it's on tight you may bend the timing cover. Where did it break? I Have welded two "catches" on a Mitsubishi timing belt gear because it got rusted onto the crank. And the wonderful designers didn't give you any way of pulling it off.
