Default 2001 5.2 Dodge Ram 2wd Bad front wheel bearings 84,000 miles

Since parts for my car are back ordered months my old truck is back to a daily driver.

when I had the transmission fluid and filter changed the guy commented my front wheel bearings are shot and sure enough they have play.

I am curious though, my drivetrain is silent, when I’ve needed bearings in the past things got loud quickly but they have been floppy for a while. Never had a bad bearing at 84000 either.

Besides the crappier handling will the bearings ever fail like they do on other cars or will I just feel like I’m driving a farm wagon after a while.

also there does not appear to be anything to grease on this truck, it must have a very strange bearing setup, could I just tighten them a little to reduce the play?

how much do the correct bearings cost?

thanks

and remember it’s a 2 wheeler most of the 4wd stuff doesn’t apply here

Tighten them. Inspect them first to see if they're failing due to excessive wear or just requires a little tightening. Every 2wd riding on a bearing vehicle goes thru this sooner or later.

Aren't those unit bearings on his truck? (Hub/bearing assembly) If that's the case, they are not adjustable...... Time for replacement.

That sounds like a $700 problem,

what is the least expensive source of decent bearings for this oddity?

AKA The typical Part source suspects don’t Appear to show The correct unitized bearings, wonder what the proper pn is for it?

Here's one.

This one is advertised as a Mopar part... though the warranty isn't as good?? That seems odd.

Thanks for the links.
$350+ installation and I likely need rotors and calipers while I am in there anyway.

Usually The better the warranty the crappier the product. Some autozone fuel pumps are failed right out of the box.

But MOOG seems to be well regarded , I always thought it was timkin or bust, learn something everyday

Since I don’t have a giant socket to pop this thing off or a proper torque wrench for 190’/lbs it looks like I would have to take it in somewhere.

Ah well, hopefully these don’t grenade in the next 400 miles. :0

Wish me luck

Moog used to be top of the line...... now, not so much. Timkin, or National, if you can find them. Those were just a couple I came up with fairly quick.
