Default Transfer case leak

Ok so apparently all my buddies think I’m some “transfer case expert now” which I most certainly am NOT.

nonetheless they keep bringing me transfer case issues to resolve.

my friends transfer case has a leak at the rear boot where the driveshaft slides into. It’s a steady drip. (Picture included) you can see where the droplet of atf fluid is about to drop. (Starts at the metal ring and works it’s way down the plastic boot until it drips on the ground)

does that rear seal/boot need to be replaced or is that a sign of something else?

Yeah that's the output seal but check if there is excessive play in the yoke to output shaft connection.

I went ahead and got a new seal from oreilys part number 4333N

ill replace and check for play in the morning and report back.

heres some pics of the old one it’s pretty torn up.

That appears to have had a couple rather hard days.

Replacing it should solve the issue. There is a bushing in there that tends to wear as well though, so, see if the yoke is sloppy in there to.

Where can you get the bushing?

i second this. Finding the seal was hard enough I read in threads it was 2 different part numbers until I found the correct one. Luckily I took my old one with my and compared. Should I need to replace the bushing I would like to make sure I have the correct one

so the one I showed a picture of last night (my truck) slid right off.

when doing my buddies truck I can’t get it off to save my life I’m just bending the thin metal ring to hell. Is there a trick I’m not aware of?

So I sprayed the outer portion with PB blaster (kinda rusted on) and when I cleaned it up I notice this small hole in the boot (the new one we bought had the same hole) is it some kind of weep hole? What’s the purpose of it?

the atf fluid is 100% for sure coming from that little hole drip by drip.

pics included

That is a "weep" hole. If I had to guess I would guess the bushing is bad
