Most charging systems run around 14.5 volts..... get much higher than that, and you boil the battery.....

Hey folks I wanted to give an update on this. So cleaning up the battery definitely seemed to help a little and I didn't have issues again for a while but then one day it didn't want to start again and all the grounds were getting hot again. So I decided to test the starter, got it out, and then took it to auto zone they tested it a bunch and it passed every time. So then this left me with more questions. But I decided to put it back on and move to the next things on the list. But then when I was back underneath putting the starter back I noticed that there was a missing bolt right where the flywheel attaches to the engine. Then I noticed that there was a gap there too! and then I felt around at the other bolts and they were ALL LOOSE! like loose to my fingers. I had finally found the problem, who ever had done work on this last hadn't tourqed the bolts and there were loose and or coming out so that the flywheel and starter were misaligned taking a huge amount of electrical surge to get the truck started hence the heated grounds. I tightened the bolts and replaced the missing one and it's started like a champ ever since.

I know this was a while ago but I figured yall would enjoy knowthing that. I'm glad I just happened to notice.

Glad you got it fixed! That's definitely an odd one!
