Default Installing a 3/4 steering Gearbox into a 1/2 Dodge truck

Hello, I'm looking for information if anyone has tried to installed a 3/4 ton steering gearbox into a 1/2ton truck? The truck is 2001 dodge 1500 4wd, 5.2L/46re. I found a new Mopar unused diesel 3/4 steering gearbox/pitman arm, I bought it ten or so years ago and forgot about it. Stock ride height and running set of 2010 dodge TRX 1500 wheels 285/55/20R tires

I'm guessing that the pitman/drag links/tie rods and steering linkage are larger on the 3/4 ton than the 1/2ton. I'm throwing around the idea of making my own steering linkages.

Thanks everyone.

Nope. Nothing different. All trucks use the same gear box and pitman arm. Simple R and R.

Rumor has it the steering ratio *might* be different. 1500's are 15:1, heavy duty trucks are 18:1.... Maybe.

According to Redhead that's correct, let's start a poll

I wouldn't know how to tell the difference with the box installed. Plus, I know my box was replaced shortly before I bought it..... so, god only knows what's in there now.

Thanks everyone for responding, I looked on rockauto, both boxes have different part #. Just looking at the gearbox's the 3/4 gearbox looks sightly larger.

I looked at my 2010 3500 dodge 4wd truck and the steering linkage is definitely different than my 1500 truck. My 1500 has the long arm coming from pitman arm to the passenger spindle, my 3500 has an arm coming from the pitman arm going to the long steering linkage, by the damper shock. The steering linkage is 20-25% larger/thicker on the 3500 than my 1500. Not sure which way is better, same goes for the tie rods size.

I remember (been a few years now) than the 99 and older 2500 trucks had a different steering linkage set-up, than the 01/02 trucks. I used to have piles of steering/brakes stuff for 2nd gen , 3rd gen and 4th gens and I just threw everything out last year. Now I wished that I kept some of the parts for trial/testing.

Yep, steering linkages were changed in 98-99 to the T style for HD trucks, but not all Rams got that. Then in 00 the knuckles and tie rods changed size/taper and the T went away. But Saginaw boxes should all be the same. Keep in mind, most "brands" today are just re-maned with their own part numbers. On Redhead's site, they just list one size for all with optional ratios.
