I just got back from my local muffler shop. It cost me $250.00 + tax for a hi flow cat installed. I looked in the old one and there was 3 big
chunks of honey comb rattling around in there . The rest of it went into my new flowmaster muffler [:'(] .
I will send the bill to dodge and hopefully get my money back!

I'm from Canada and I called (1800-465-2001) today to see if I qualified for the recall and I don't. They said it was only for the 3.9L Rams. It's too bad because mine does that really bad rattle too. Really disapointing.

Its not only for the 3.9L's if they told you that its total bull and I'd call them back. They're trying to screw people on this.

I asked her to double check and she said "3.9 only". I was pissed. I'll try again tomorow and see if the story is any different. Then I'll start touring the dealerships. What should I tell them? Maybe the word 'lawyer' might change the story. Why can't they be honest about this??? [:@]

Edit: I read up and found this language in the usdoj settlement article:
Under the settlement, Chrysler will notify approximately 700,000 owners of certain 1996-1999 model year Jeeps, Dodge Ram, and Dodge Dakota vehicles, that the catalytic converter warranty on their vehicles is being extended to 10 years or 120,000 miles.
Key word here is 'certain'. I'd like to see the official DaimlerChrysler issue to see what the specifics are.

My Canadian 1999 Ram is a 5.2 and it is covered. I'd call back and inquire some more.

I have a 98 dodge ram sprot 4x4 5.2 and I went to the Dealer today and the guy said yes there was a recall. He then ran my vin and said my truck hadnt had a recal on it but I have till 80,000 miles on the extended warrenty if it does. I think if there is a re-call it should be fixed wether its defaulty now or not.. cuz isnt that the point of a recal

I WORK AT A DODGE DEALER, AND IT ISNT A RECALL, JUST AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 10 YEAR, 100,000 MI. THATS WHY THEY DONT HAVE TO REPLACE IT IF IT ISNT MALFUNCTIONING YET. MINE ISNT COVERED YET, EITHER. BE PATIENT- THEY RELEASE VINS ALITTLE AT A TIME SO THAT THE DEALERS ARENT FLOODED WITH THEM AND SO THEY CAN KEEP UP ON SUPPLY OF THEM. TRY CHECKING BACK IN A MONTH OR SO.

If it wasnt a recall why would I want to go back in a month? They wont change it unless its broke rite? Why should I have to wait till it clogs up my expensive exhaust to get it changed?
