Just got mine replaced yesterday. I must just have a cool dealer. They didn't even test it. I told them it was rattling like rocks in a tin can and they said, "Bring it in and we'll replace it." I didn't have to pay a dime. I still have some rattle, but it performs MUCH better now. It idles better, and doesn't run like such a dog. I'm going to do a intake cleaner on it, and adjust my plug gap closer and hopefully that will help.

I can't thank you guys here at the site enough for this. You easily saved me $200.

Ok I just bought my '97 last week, and it was from a small little lot not a dealer, they have no shops or anything and 10 cars on their lot. But what do i do, just go to any Dodge/Chrysler dealer and tell em I want my cat?? Or do I go to the same lot where I bought it, even though there is no warranty abd was sold "As Is"

Yeah, I suppose you could go back and ask for your cat........if they haven't packed up their bags already and moved to another location. "As Is" pretty much sums it up, I'm afraid.......

Well I have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.2 V8 (5-speed) and I have noticed that instead of getting 15MPG in the city and 19MPG on the highway I get 11/15. I do hear a rattling noise under the truck when i hit bumps or dips, could the catalytic converter be the problem? I called my local dodge dealership and they told me to bring the truck in, but they would charge me $70 for a diagnostic fee. I told him my vin number and he told me it was not on the list, and I have not received any recall notice but I just bought the vehicle about 3 months ago. What should I do???

ya i got an official letter from chrylser about a month ago stating that my warranty for my cat is only good till 70k miles for replacement. its a 99 and i have 104k on it. If i take it to a dealership would they still fix it or what?
I thought it was mandatory 100k warranty in the US on all emission related items. The cat falls under that category.

Little update here....I called 4 dealers around me, all 4 said they cant do nothing about my bad cat. I even called chrysler head quarters...and they said, nope, cant do nothing, the extended warrenty wont cover it or anything. Then as a last resort, I drove to one other dodge dealer....talked to the service lady, explained the cat is rattling. She set me an appointment up, said they will check it out, if its bad, they will replace it. I asked her if this appointment will cost me anything, and she said nope, nothing. So I guess we will see Wed. what the verdict is.

I'm from Canada and I called (1800-465-2001) today to see if I qualified for the recall and I don't. They said it was only for the 3.9L Rams. It's too bad because mine does that really bad rattle too. Really disapointing.

Brute, mine's a 96 and i just had it checked yesterday at the dealership....needless to say it was bad and a new cat is being ordered in for me. There were 2 outstanding recalls that were fixed ; ignition switch wiring and secondary hood latch. Apparently, the ign switch and blower motor are wired into the same circuit....the replacement harness has a relay in it to correct the problem and prevent a potential wireing meltdown.

I had mine serviced at Southbank Dodge and they seem to know what's going on. Maybe give them a call and see what's up. I've also heard that the original manufacturers warrenty covers cats for 8 years. I purchased mine recently so i don't have any factory warrenty documentation to confirm this but i did hear it from a reliable source. Good luck....keep the heat on them !
