IF you are getting air into the system, (assuming a closed system.....) then the leak is likely on the suction side, so, fluid won't leak out.

For the cooling system though.... I have had minor leaks that dripped on to a hot surface, boiled off, so, I would be losing coolant, but never see any signs of a leak.
