Default No bus

I recently bought a RAM 1500 Sport from a private owner and was getting all needed maintenance work done by my mechanic and the NO BUS started flashing. Bought a new alternator and juiced up my battery but still won't turn on and when we jump it doesn't stay on and shuts off and won't turn on by itself. Would a hard reset be good.......i need this truck to run to haul woods to keep us warm for the winter and just needs around the house. please help.

Gonna move this to the 2nd gen ram tech section for ya.

"No Bus" means the cluster has lost communication with the PCM. Generally, its caused by one of the sensors on the 5 volt bus failing/shorting out, and taking down the whole system. (yeah, not a good design, really.....) Since yours won't start, I would immediately suspect either the cam, or crank position sensor. Trouble is, there isn't a good way to test those, without having a fairly high zoot scanner, or o-scope..... Could try unplugging them, one at a time, and see if the cluster comes back. (of course, the engine still won't start, even if the cluster does come back.....)
