I went and got the truck today. I removed the old o2 sensor and put the one that was in there originally. Still have the popping. I did the key trick and have 2 codes 12 and 37 but the light is not on. All the plug wires seem to be all the way on. Engine runs smooth at idle. I’m used to driving my cummins so it feels gutless but seemed to drive ok. Only pops when your out of the throttle. Any ideas to try next?
Dijya try running the engine w/o the O2 sensor plugged in? If that makes no diff, then get some fuel trims n see what they haveta say.
yea I ran it with the o2 plugged in but it’s only in one header the wire is too short the reach the H pipe I also ran it with it unplugged for a few min. I have a video but for some reason can’t upload it.
I went and pulled the plugs one at a time on the pass side and looked at them and checked gap. The front 3 looked good nice even brown color. The rear was black. I cleaned it and reinstalled it. Seemed to run good for a few min then back to the backfiring. I pulled the wire off that rear cylinder injector and no more backfire. So I have it narrowed down to that cylinder. I’m going to go pick up some plugs and see if that fixes the issue. What plugs does everyone run? Should I just replace that one plug and see if that’s the issue? The cap rotor button wires and plugs only have about 30000 miles on them
Black for oil? Or soot? I don't think changing your plugs is going to make any difference. I think your problem lies elsewhere. Do the compression test. See what your numbers look like.
