Rebuilding my 02 24v Cummins. Wanting to document and post as I go along. Mainly to have a thread to ask questions for the pro’s and also to document the build. Hopefully this turns out well and can show with help from the great minds here and little resources it can be done. I started removing the front of the truck a few days ago and draining the fluids out. 1/15/2021

This was the description on the add. As I soon found out after purchasing it the odometer was not logging the miles so mileage is unknown. Paid 9k for it and first thing I did was recoup $1500 back from selling the rims and tires.

Don’t have the equipment to drain the a/c properly so I unbolted it and pushed it to the side. Is a bit difficult to work around it but it’s possible.

Looks like the vp has been changed out for sure.

The amount of oil leaks is unreal on this thing.

Feeling excited about seeing the cross hatching on all 6 cylinders with no scratches I can see with the motor still in the truck. I’m no pro but I believe this is a good sign so far as to the health of the block?

Yeah, looks good. You have some oil leaks there though it seems.

You can just vent the AC outside like most people do. But that's up to you. Looks to be in good shape other then the oil leaks

Yeah the leaks where bad on this one. 🤞🏻I can get the motor out in the next day or 2 and have a good look at the bearings.

This one is ready to be cleaned up. May have it sent to the shop. What do you think?

Don’t think anyone has been inside the timing case. Or they didn’t care about the killer pin.

Got the engine bay just about empty. Everything I can get unbolted off the motor. Trans bolt are out. This motor is ready to be pulled out. Going to be hard since it’s outside and on dirt. I hope some plywood will get the picker to the garage door. Should have it out and hopefully on the stand tomorrow and completely taken apart. Then I can spend the weekend cleaning it up.
