Hey all.

I have a 2002 2500 4X4 V10 Quad Cab. Doing the hubs and both are on there but good. Used a torch to heat it up. Not budging. Bought this other tool that provides leverage so you can try whacking them off. Nothing. I'm thinking of cutting the knuckles off and just going with new ones but can't seem to find them anywhere.

Ideas?

Thread one of the bolts into the hub a ways, put a socket and extension on it, so it will jam against something significant when you turn the wheels, then, start the engine, and use the power steering to try and break it loose.

That is definitely SMRT! I just did this on an '02 also to replace axle u-joints. It was quite an ordeal but I finally got them. I should have thought of this!

Regarding the vid, he says the stub shaft nut is 1-3/4" but is it not technically 1-11/16" like the half tons?

 

1-11/16" is the correct size for the 2nd gen stub shaft nut. I noticed that as well, since the size of the bolts holding in the hub bearing have 14MM 12 point heads on them. I believe he's working on a later model truck, but the removal concept he used also works on 2nd gen trucks.

 

Isn't that wheel spacer only on 3500s?

If you get aftermarket replacements like Dorman they're definitely not 12pt, but I honestly don't recall if they stay 14mm hex. Hmm, I'm unable to find a hex size specified anywhere

One Amazon review claims the Dormans are 10mm instead of his original size of 19mm on an '03.....NEITHER of those sizes makes sense to me so I think he was smokin' it....

 

I tried the push it from the bolt method and I saw my tie rods start to bend pretty good. Backed off.

 

Gonna need some heat.
