Exact rotor direction at Cylinder 1 TDC
Hey folks, just wanted to see if anyone recalls EXACTLY where the rotor should point at on the engine at cyl 1 tdc.
I'm hearing differing descriptions but have yet to find a definitive answer.
I replaced my timing chain not too long ago but I'm starting to doubt my work because I'm feeling like what I've been experiencing is still valve timing related. Hoping to be sure...
These are photos of where mine points at tdc. (This happens to be tdc cylinder one exhaust but obviously the compression stroke would be 180 degrees off, I just forgot to snap a photo when it was.)
Basically, is it supposed to be directly lined up to the center of the stump? Thanks much!

If you replaced the timing chain but did not touch the distributor then something is off. At #1 TDC the rotor should point to the mark on the pickup plate which is some 30-40 degrees counterclockwise from where the rotor is pointing at right now. If you had the distributor out or already loose and turned it all bets are off.

What problem are you trying to solve ? The rotor can point anywhere as long as the distributor/fuel sync matches although you probably want the wires from the pickup go to the rear. See here for some pics that might help: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...ld-timing.html

The rotor should point to #1 on the cmp that's how you can tell. That's how the factory does it

That's what I figured and why I stated that if you didn't touch the distributor the rotor is now pointing in the wrong direction. Here's my logic: Assuming the rotor was pointing at the mark on the pickup plate when #1 was at TDC before you replaced the timing set then it should still point there after. Looking at the picture it appears it's not (I can only infer where the mark would be because the pickup isn't in place). As the distributor shaft and cam always move together the only explanation would be that the cam and crank are not aligned correctly. Or the distributor was moved.
What timing set did you use ? Aftermarket ones have sometimes confusing markings on them.
