Default Question about my transmission?

Hey everyone,
I've recently came to notice a problem with my 1997 Dodge Ram 1500. When I first got my 5.2L V8 it had some transmission issues. For one it would shift into 2nd gear but never 3rd and my RPMs would ALWAYS sky-rocket. Well, I unplugged it from the computer and shifted it manually for about 6 months. I woke up one day and decided to plug it back in to see if it fixed itself. It had, for the most part, it would shift nicely and I could get up to 75 before my transmission refused to shift into any higher of a gear. Well I've recently noticed that whenever my gas light come on my transmission starts acting up again. When I first got my truck the gas light was on and my fuel pump float was off by about a quarter of a tank. I'm not sure if any of this matters. I've talked to a few of my buddies and they have no idea whats going on. I just need some help.

Thanks,
DodgeGuy1787

Any codes? You unplugging it and it shifting means you have an electrical issue

Did you clear the codes from when you had it unplugged? If not those codes aren't valid.

Yes clear them, leave the transmission plugged in and drive it for a bit.

What year is your truck? If the computer doesn't know how fast you are going it won't shift the transmission. Could be a bad sensor or wiring. Download the factory service manual for your truck from the FAQ section. Wiring is in 8W
