Default Rattling underneath truck

1999 ram 1500 4X4..85,000 miles...truck suddenly started erratic idle, surging, hesitating when stepping on pedal...I then hears a rattling sound like a rock in a tin can kinda sound underneath the truck from around the oil and transmission pans, t case, catalytic converter area... I can't zero in exactly where the sound comes from...there is no check engine light...any information would be appreciated...thanks..

The muffler bearings are bad!

Or, just a bad cat. Gut or cut off.

I was wondering about cutting off cats... will that affect how it idles or accelerates??? With 02 sensors and computer controlled air and idle settings and all that? Assuming that the problem is the cat...

Sure, it idles and accelerates better! Gut that thing or get what I have: the Jegs Y-pipe. Truck has more getup than I've ever felt and it's at over 271k.

But, they have to really want to come out.......

The Fanatic posts from a phone, so, sometimes it is necessary to decode his posts. What he really means is, TAKE them out. (referring to the catalytic converter on the truck. Not your girlfriends cat...... that'd be bad.)
