Default Help ID’ing rear differential

Hi, this is on a ‘98 2500 4x4, #8800 gvw version. Time for a pinion bearing and seal.
im pretty sure it’s a Dana 60 but I’m not positive. Of course the tags are gone and there isn’t a “60” or “70” cast into it.
There is a number “248 48543” cast into a web, but I can’t find out what that means.
thanks for any help!

If you have the 5.9 gas, its a dana 60, if you have the diesel, its a d70, same for the 8.0.

Ha! I knew I’d forget a pertinent piece.

Fun fact: Chrysler called the D60s 248RBI (rear) and 248FBI (front). No idea why

Found that in the shop manual. It's Rear and Front Beam-design Iron axle housing. Why they didn't just call it a Dana 60 like you say is beyond me too.
I like to imagine it's for the same reason they call the drive shaft a Propellor Shaft, because the guy who wrote the manual was an old school engineer type with a white button down pocket shirt and horn rimmed glasses like Michael Douglas in Falling Down.

Likely a fair bit of truth in that statement.

Good to know that. I was just under my rear end getting the #s to figure this out...I have a 448 code. That would be the Dana 70, correct? Mine’s a ‘99 2500 Cummins. I also need to perform a pinion seal change.

The diesel got the 70 if auto trans, 80 if manual. (but, they may have just been in the one ton trucks...)
