Sounds like I need to pry harder. Going to stick a rod in between shaft and diff and Rachet it. If that doesn't work its cutting time..

Thought about taking a torch to where it pinches those 'bolt heads' (the yoke?). Real close to the fuel tank though

Yeah, four bolts, two straps, and pry the joint out of the yoke.

I got it man! Wasn't gonna let it beat me lol. Took some excessive hammering..

in guessing this happened because of the orientation it came out? Or too much banging. Either way it's out. More pics coming.

THANK YOU

Yeah, save that cap, and watch out for the little rollers in there. Looks to be in serious need of some grease. Or replacement.....

Will the shaft pull easily out of the t-case now?

Is it a separate part, or is (was??) it part of the overdrive housing?

I was wrong thinking it was some little flange, yes haha . It must be the overdrive housing that broke, technically part of the transmission? Pictures incoming. I guess I need to get that overdrive housing out, and replace it.

Looks like it won't be too much trouble to replace it at this point. But where to find it...

https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...e-housing.html

Looked at this thread from 2011. Recommends https://www.wittrans.com/parts. I guess I will give them a call, I cannot find the part on rock auto. I'm sure it's at least listed, even if it is out of stock. Is it called anything besides the o/d housing?

Also I put up a picture of that support arm thing coming down. I'm wondering how likely it is that it is the source of the issue? Looks like it is supposed to offer some flexible support, could be it's so rusted it was keeping it too stiff? Just a thought

Normally it doesn't come separate. Comes as part of the whole transmission. Could likely find on in a yard around you somewhere..... IF they will sell it to you without the rest of the trans.

Also, keep in mind, looks like yours is 97 or older, and the 4x4 shifter mounts to the trans, so, 98 and up housings won't work, as they don't have provisions for that.

I'll start looking

Thanks for the heads up.

Just curious. I have another 2nd gen 1500. It was kept in better shape by previous owners. Its my daily now. All this to say-

How much would you sell a rusted up single cab with a 'cracked' overdrive housing and a Jerry rigged exhaust system. 170k miles, dash and interior are in great shape.

getting some $1000 offers I'm turning down.

Thanks for all your help per usual. Keeping the second gens on the road

Just realized what you meant by O/D here. I was thinking outside diameter section, what? Haha, gotta learn to read more carefully

You had it pinned down day one. Thats what I get for not asking questions.
